How does Virginia’s municipal financing work?
SB 1212, the Clean Energy Financing Bill, allows Virginia localities the authority to create their own clean energy financing programs. Property owners who install green energy improvements will finance the costs through property taxes over a time period determined by the city or county.
Is the solar financing program available now?
The bill passed unanimously through the state Senate and House in March 2009 and will become law effective July 1, 2009. Now it’s just up to cities and counties to establish the programs.
